About

Victoria Dye Equestrian Horsemanship Camps offers horsemanship camps that include horse care, handling, grooming, outdoor games, arts and crafts, and riding. Campers take part in daily riding lessons with experienced trainers, mounted games, and bareback riding.

• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: Summer camp runs June 8th – August 6th

Since 2014, Victoria Dye Equestrian has been providing lesson programs and riding camps and has been managing Westwind Community Barn, with additional history noting that Westwind Community Barn’s original barn dates back to the 1940s. The program’s mission focuses on the fundamentals of riding and establishing strong horsemanship skills, including safe horse handling, proper grooming techniques, care and maintenance of tack, and learning the unique characteristics of the horse. The leadership team includes Torie Dye as Owner, Head Trainer and Barn Manager; Heather Franco as Scheduling Manager; Kate Richardson as Instructor; and Cam Trepanier as Summer Instructor.

Torie Dye has been the manager of Westwind Community Barn since 2014, has been riding since age 7, and was an avid member of United States Pony Club, attending the United States Pony Club National Championships twice and achieving her C-3 Rating. While studying Animal Science and Equine Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she was the coach and president of the dressage team and attended the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championships twice, placing first individually and contributing to a 4th place national team ranking. Her experience also includes a student internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital studying equine medical care, serving as assistant trainer at Millers Equestrian Center and Sanctuary, and working as Director of School Horse Operations at Fremont Hills Stable.

The Westwind IEA team associated with the program finished the year as Region 4 high point for both the middle school and high school teams, and the high school team was zone champion. Westwind Community Barn, together with neighboring Byrne Preserve open space, is described as offering a refuge from the pressures of Silicon Valley, and the establishment of the riding program at Westwind Community Barn followed a 1977 Town Council wish that the barn serve “the broader community.” The Westwind Riding Institute at the same site gives kids with disabilities the chance to participate in a therapeutic riding program, and the Los Altos Hills Horsemen's Association is dedicated to keeping good horsemanship alive in the town through sponsoring events and advocating for improved horse facilities and trails.
